Google Introduces .ING Domain for Targeted User Intent Marketing

Google has introduced a new top-level domain (TLD) called .ING, allowing users to register domains that convey actions, people, places, and adjectives ending with the ing suffix. This move by Google enables publishers to create domain names that target user intent effectively, especially in local search.

A TLD is the last part of a domain name, such as .com or .org. The .ING TLD opens up opportunities for brands to register domains that reflect what users can do or achieve with their products or services through concise and memorable domain names.

Brands like Adapt, Adobe Acrobat, Canva, and ING banking have already secured .ING domains for their businesses. Utilizing an ING TLD can be a strategic branding move, known as a domain hack, to enhance marketing efforts and simplify website access.

Bill Hartzer, the founder of Hartzer Consulting, highlights the potential benefits of using .ING domains as domain hacks. This innovative approach can help companies with long or complex domain names create shorter, more descriptive domains that resonate with their audience.

The verb forms of -ing words are particularly valuable for targeting user intent accurately, as they signify actions. This precise targeting can be leveraged in various industries, from weddings to services and products, by appending city, state, or province names to create highly targeted domain names.

The cost of ING domains varies based on the registration period. Early access domains come at a higher price initially and gradually become more affordable as they approach general availability. The general availability rate for ING domains is set to start at $14.99 per year from December 5, 2023, onwards.

Google has outlined the availability timeline for ING domains, starting with a sunrise period for trademark holders to register followed by an early access period where anyone can register available domains for an additional fee. Finally, general availability allows registration without extra charges.

The introduction of the .ING TLD by Google presents a unique opportunity for businesses to enhance their online presence and align their domain names with user intent. By leveraging these new domains creatively, companies can establish a stronger brand identity and improve their marketing efforts.

In a digital landscape where user intent plays a crucial role in online success, the use of .ING domains can revolutionize how businesses connect with their target audience and drive engagement. With the right strategy, these domains can be powerful tools for enhancing brand visibility and attracting relevant traffic.
